LonoMyth's Kid Actor Spotlight presents the...

Presenting... the results of the Media Boy 1999 Poll conducted by this site over the last three weeks of 1999. Visitors to the site and readers of alt.fan.teen.idols were asked to vote on their favorite young male performers based on their work over the past year (Qualifiers had to have been under 18 years of age.)
While we had the same number of ballots this year as we did last year (93), fewer of them were incomplete this year (87 complete (5 name) ballots and only 6 incompletes... which were given less weight.) A record total of 1,315 points (as opposed to 1,262 last year) were allocated to 118 actors and musicians. So, I consider this to be the best turnout ever!
The one sour note is that a couple of people made an attempt to "stuff the box" and I had to discard another eight ballots because of it. I hope we don't see that kind of thing again.
And now for the results...
As most of you know, David Gallagher has easily won all of the three previous polls, last year with an impressive 132 points (about 10% of all available points.) David's fans were out in force again this year; heaping upon the wonderfully talented David 119 points!
...but did he win? Incredible as it may seem, no... David gets a solid second place berth. The young entertainer chosen by you, the fans, to win this year's poll is...
Haley Joel Osment!!!
That's right! For turning in the most noticed performance of the year, the always excellent Osment has won the hearts and respect of the masses and you bestowed upon him a whopping 162 points! The only surprise to me is that it has taken this long for him to get such notice, as he has been doing amazing work for years. Congratulations, Haley!
Also making a very strong showing was the person who won the most coveted kid role in movie history, gaining a lot of admirers with his portrayal of Anakin Skywalker. With a total of 75 points, Jake Lloyd takes a healthy third placing.
Last year's fourth place finisher, Joseph Mazzello, did not qualify for the poll this year due to the hiatus he appears to have taken from show-biz. That slot is filled this year by Kevin Zegers (63 points), who is no stranger to the top spots in this poll. Joseph Cross also repeats a strong showing this year (57 points) and takes fifth place.
The biggest surprise of the year was Mason Gamble, who made it onto the 1996 and 1997 lists, but dropped off of the poll completely in 1998. He roars back with a respectable 55 points to claim sixth place.
Rounding out the Top 10 are personable Tyler Kyte and the intense Ryan Merriman (tied for 7th place with 43 points), the adorable twins Dylan and Cole Sprouse at 9th place (29 points) and the dashing Eric Lloyd (28 points) squeaking into 10th.
Those just missing the Top Ten are Michael Welch, Aaron Carter, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Alex D. Linz.
Here is the entire list for your perusing pleasure. Scroll down to the end to see some other interesting results.

*Note: The column that shows change in rank from last year, while it seems to do a good job of indicating whether a person's popularity rose or fell, it can show wildly exaggerated results in the bottom half of the list.
But, what if...?
Okay, so would the results have been any different if each voter were asked only to vote for their favorite actor? Well, I was curious, too, so I kept track of everyone's very favorites, here's what it would have looked like (1 point for each ballot):
Rank/Points Actor ===========--==================== 1 20 Haley Joel Osment 2 16 David Gallagher 3 5 Joseph Cross, Jake Lloyd 4 3 Shayn Solberg, Kevin Zegers 5 2 Justin Berfield, Zachery Ty Bryan, Aaron Carter, Mason Gamble, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tyler Kyte, Alex D. Linz, Eric Lloyd, Elijah Wood 6 1 Michael Angarano, Ryan DeBoer, Andrew Ducote, Ruud Feltkamp, Frankie J. Galasso, Jeff Gulka, Taylor Hanson, Miko Hughes, Tyler Hynes, Jesse James, Cody Jones, Ryan Merriman, Dave Moffatt, Jeffrey Licon, Jesse McCartney, Kaylan Romero, Will Rothhaar, Corey Sevier, Michael Shulman, Jacob Smith, Cole & Dylan Sprouse, Michal Suchánek, Ricky van Gastel, Erik von Detten
Again, thanks to all of you who took part and made this such a (in my estimation) big success. I had a blast doing this and hope you all will consider doing this again with me next December.
